Heart Breaks in the Age of Dating apps

Dating apps are being used today, by all age groups, and for multiple reasons.

Some might use them to hook up, some for romance, some for a partner, and some to get over a broken heart.  No matter what the intentions are, dating apps have managed to capture peoples imagination.

Dating apps do provide instant gratification when ones profile is liked or matched.  And it provides opportunities and avenues for the euphoric feelings that come from being in a relationship, without having to put in the effort required to sustain it.

In real relationships, when the couple is bored, which they will, after a period of time, would need to put in renewed effort to rekindle the romance and make it exciting again.

With dating apps, there is not even a breakup.  One can ghost – just disappear and cut off all communications and block the other person.  And the next match is ready.  The one being dumped is left to pick up the pieces, if they have already gotten involved.

Bad experiences may make the person anxious and may precipitate in depression.  They also may end up not taking up relationships more seriously

On the other hand, it may help  learn how to deal with rejection and enhance resilience too.
